Nal Hutta

Nal Hutta (Glorious Jewel in Huttese), aka Hutta, was the capital of Hutt Space. It was formerly known as Evocar and was the original home world of the Evocii, who were ousted by the Hutts. Being a very large planet, however it lacked natural heavy metals meaning its density was less than that of most worlds. The planet was originally a lush jungle world with vast oceans, though the Hutts eventually transformed it into a polluted and barren wasteland. Polluted by strip-mining operations and heavy industrialization.  Raw materials were constantly strip-mined from the planet's surface and shipped to Nar Shaddaa for processing and export.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire established nominal control over Nal Hutta, but for the most part the Hutt ruling families were left to control day to day affairs, with the Empire stepping in only when searching for Rebel sympathizers or other criminals.

The Moon of Nar Shaddaa
Nar Shaddaa was the largest moon of Nal Hutta. More commonly known as the Vertical City, the Smuggler's Moon and Little Coruscant, infested with crime. While places like Coruscant (The galactic capitol) was filled with gleaming apartments and well-maintained skywalks, the entire moon of Nar Shaddaa was dominated by decaying urban landscape and congested, polluted cities. The moon was protected by planetary shields. Anything illegal elsewhere could be bought and sold on Nar Shaddaa, and many young smugglers, pirates and criminals started their careers on the Smugglers' Moon. Various sections of Nar Shaddaa were controlled by the Hutts and other criminal organizations.

Despite the criminal activities on the Smuggler's Moon, it was known that many of the galaxy's most advanced technologies were actually developed on Nar Shaddaa. Corporations that wanted to avoid regulations that prohibited testing often developed such dangerous and even valuable technology within the lower levels of the city of the moon.

Brief History
When the Hutts left their homeworld of Varl they displaced the Evocii, native to Nal Hutta, to Nar Shaddaa in 15,000 BBY and immediately destroyed the remaining Evocii agriculture. Eventually the moon was annexed by the Hutts, who started to force the Evocii into slave labor. Once the moon constructions was complete the Evocii were finally free. Those that remained, took refuge in the Undercity. Unfortunately the Evocii began to mutate into unwholesome savages due to various technologies practiced in the moon's undercity. Once a bustling trade route it was eventually abandoned by the Republic it quickly became a criminal haven gaining a reputation of being the center of illegal operations in the galaxy.  Now distant from most galactic trade centers, the moon was allowed to run its own affairs with little outside interference.

Sections of the urbanized moon's vertical city included the Duros Sector and the Corellian sector.

The Duros Sector
The Duros Sector was a district of Nar Shaddaa. It was inhabited throughout its existence primarily by Duros, hence its name. It was one of the moon's poorest regions. During the time of the old republic e sector was also inhabited by a variety of alien war refugees from across the galaxy seeking shelter from the expanding Sith Empire Because of this, it was the location of much resistance to Imperial rule.  After the fall of the Trade Federation and the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Duros Sector fell into disrepair and malaise, assuming the character of the rest of the moon. Many Neimoidians living there assumed the identity of Duros. By the early years of the Empire, the sector had become abandoned, inhabited only by semi-intelligent predators. It then became known as the Old Duros Sector.  It contained the Old Duros Spaceport and a secret tunnel entrance into the Corellian Sector.

The Corellian Sector
The Corellian Sector was a high-rise district located on the moon Nar Shaddaa. Casinos and trendy hotspots such as the Meltdown Café attracted patrons from all walks of life.

This sector housed many public merchant areas and an ill-kept warehouse district located along the perimeter of an expansive thoroughfare. The most profitable enterprise found in this region was the gambling industry. The entire city reeked of refuse and debris as repulsorlift garbage scows floated from level to level collecting garbage. The Sector could be reached by a secret tunnel entrance from the Duros Sector.

Culture
Though dominated politically and economically by the Hutts and Corellian-descended Humans, people of many species lived in the Corellian Sector. One of the more populated habitats within the Corellian Sector was the public housing area and the machine shops atop Level 88.  Crime was abundant in the Corellian Sector, but the authorities at Corellian Port Control largely ignored the smaller offenses and partially encouraged the occasional bounty killing.

Rebellion Era
In 1 BBY, this region became the focus of a major clash between the soldiers of the Galactic Empire and the freedom fighters of the Rebel Alliance. The Rebels had managed to insert covert Rebel SpecForce operatives into the ranks of Corellian Port Control. Through these agents, they were able to smuggle high-end munitions out of the district inside of sealed packing crates. In the dead of night, pilots would fly the weapons off-world in the cargo bays of huge CR90 corvettes.

Two bounty hunters, Spurch Goa and Dyyz Nataz, learned of these operations from Greedo and sold the information to the Empire. As a result, Darth Vader sent two camouflaged Gamma-class Assault Shuttles to the Corellian Sector to raze the district. SpecForce operative Spane Covis recognized the disguised freighters and alerted the Rebel commandos. Imperial stormtroopers disembarked from the shuttles and engaged in a firefight with twenty Rebel soldiers. The Rebels managed to fight off the Imperials with a C4-CZN ion field gun. Despite the temporary victory, a large portion of the Corellian Sector was destroyed when a second wave of Imperials arrived. An entire quarter collapsed, taking out some twenty levels. Level 88.

Undercity
Resting deep below the towering structures comprising Nar Shaddaa's ecumenopolis, the Undercity was home to shipyards owned by the Hutt Cartel, until its demise in 4 ABY.  It was also home to the Evocii of Evocar and the native Nar Shaddaa inhabitants, the Ganks.

Ganks, also known as Gank Killers, were a bloodthirsty, bipedal sentient species. Members of the species usually wore high-tech battle armor from head to foot, so to most non-Ganks their physical appearance remained unknown. Under the armor Ganks were hairy and powerful, with yellow, squarish faces and beady eyes. They sported cybernetic implants that allowed them to communicate with one another silently. Ganks were rarely seen alone, as they moved around in packs and worked together to accomplish their aims. They relished opportunities for violent mayhem and massacring others, a joy that only embellished their reputation as bloodthirsty killers.

Among the many mysteries surrounding the Ganks was the name of their true homeworld, since most members of the species resided on the Hutt-controlled industrial moon known as Nar Shaddaa. There they often were found working for Hutts—acting as mercenaries, bounty hunters, bodyguards, and assassins.
